We all know that Google discounts excessive link exchanges.

What does Google mean by the term "excessive link excahnge"? Can we take it as number of links as the limit, say 100 or 200 or 1000

    Please discuss.

"excessive" doesn't exactly carry an exact number and for good reason. if you have a million or ten reciprocal links as long as they add value and relevance to your business.

    Thank you for your answers.

But my question again is even though I exchange link with only quality and relevant sites, Is there any limitation/restriction in no. of links that I add?

It's pretty hard to get 1000 or more relevant links to your site. I think under the term "excessive" Google means not legal way to get links. If your site is properly optimized you will not need excessive links!

My say on this topic would be that as long as link building looks natural and not spammy to search engines you are good. Although a stipulated number is hard to associate.

OK, this is pretty straightforward. But about the links left inside the blog comments – is it possible that too much comments carrying your link could hurt your page rank and position on the search results pages?

I agree with Tripta_Kneoteric because I observed most of the sites ranking top have huge number of back links.

Well said. I think varying the anchor and surrounding text of your link also helps not to fall into the spammy category.
