Exactly how are some businesses successful with the Content Network?

I'm in charge of PPC for a company that has a terrific conversion rate / ROI with search ads. We've been trying to build up contextual ads recently and it has been a disaster. I understand search and context ads are two completely different animals, but 8,000 clicks and zero conversions is unbelievable. I ran a Placement Report and there weren't any websites that stood out a lot to indicate click fraud.

I've read through some of the threads on this site and the consensus seems to be content ads work for some people and not for others. Who does it work for? What industry are you in? Are you getting a good ROI?

We sell personalized clothing, and like I said, we convert really well for the most part. Just not through the content network. Thanks a lot,

    Jeff

Well you have to track everything and remove the non-performing sites.

Well, that is the problem: EVERY website is non-performing. Zero conversions. Certainly I could go through the list and exclude the sites that don't match our demographic, but what about all the sites that do match our demographic? We aren't getting any conversions from them either...

But somebody must be making money off content ads, right? Who are you, how does it work?

The content network performs fine for me. EPC is slightly better than the search network. Perhaps it is your niche.

That's a tough one, Jeff. Without knowing more specifics about what the company is selling, the ads you're running, and the sites they're on, it's hard to give a good answer.

Content generally has low conversions for everyone, but I've made sales with it before.

Depends on your field. I run many campaigns, some of which work well, some of which are borderline worthwhile, and some (like yours) are completely pants.

Ultimately, if your campaign's not getting any success on any of the pages that it appears on, it's probably not going to work...
