When you're searching for a keyword (we're talking about SEO, not Adwords), do you use exact or broad match in order to see the monthly searches?

    Why?

    Exact.
it's an adwords tool - broad match shows you the search volume if you set your keywords to broad match in an adwords campaign - which is meaningless for s.e.o

I really agree with you, and want to suggest him to choose that keyword has high search volume and low/medium competition.

I think exact match and broad match both helps , exact match can be your target for the short term but you can expnd to broad match searches if your website goes up on pagerank.

If the numbers were spot on in the first place, exact match would be more of a tangible number for a new site.
