Exact Negative Match

Hi...I've recently seen this mentioned and wonder if it can solve an issue I have.

Scenario: I have two ad groups running the same keywords...one ad group contains just broad match and the other contains just exact match. The exact having a competitive cpc to compete with other ads, and the broad having a low cpc but allow me to capture the search string when generating a report. On the reports I generate, it shows that some single words trigger my broad match keywords...and these single words are too broad and basically mean that my ad is being generated to a not very specific search. For instance, I’d have a list of broad match keywords such as:

    Car cover
    Car polish
    Car garage

Then if someone types in ‘car’, this would trigger any of the above. This is too broad and therefore I ideally need to stop the word ‘car’ triggering the above. So my question is (at last!), can an exact negative match: -[car] be added to my ad group containing the above broad keywords.

Have I got that right...so from that point on, if a user types ‘car’ then my ads won’t show, but if they type ‘green car polish’ then they will show?
Crikey...think I just about understand my own question!

    Yes and yes.

I would also add all the exact match keywords from the other adgroup as negative exact match for the 'broad' adgroup. Theoretically it should not be necessary but it just guarantees there is no conflict as to which keyword triggers your ads.

Yep, this is correct. That feature is called "embedded match."
