Exact Match Vs Phrase Match [2 Adgroups]

I was wondering if I have the following setup

    Campaign
    Adgroup 1 [keyword]
    Adgroup 2 "keyword"

Will there be a conflict between the campaigns because I have the same keyword just in one adgroup it's a phrase match and in one it's an exact match? Should adgroup 1 be paused while testing phrase match?

    Thanks!

No, as long as they're different match types, they will not conflict.

    As Masterful says.

Although I'd go down the route of having Phrase matched adgroups/keywords in Campaign 1 and Campaign 2 with Exact matched adgroups/keywords in.

This way, you can set a lower budget for the phrase matches campaign and a higher one for the Exact matched campaign.

Then, simply use the phrase campaign to find new long tail keywords, which are then subsequently added to the Exact Campaign.

Not sure that I'd split them into separate campaigns - it seems a little redundant - but different Adgroups is often a good idea.

If the Phrase-match keywords perform significantly less well, then you can adjust the bids accordingly, to equalise the cost per conversion - in which case, it doesn't matter which keywords spend the budget...

I'd split them into campaigns, if we are talking about many keywords and many adgroups. If it's just a handful of Adgroups then yes, having them in the same Campaign I can understand.

If there's lots of adgroups, I go down the route of splitting match types into campaigns. For example:

Widgets - Exact (campaign) > Widgets (ad Group) > [widgets] (keyword)
Widgets - Phrase ... as above
Widgets - Broad ... as above

It makes life a lot easier when maintaining and running reports on and just looks and feels neater.

Also, my main reason for using Phrase/Broad matched keywords, is to primarily catch new exact matches. Having them in separate campaigns, means I can budget accordingly - most my budget is spent on Exact matched keywords, as my ads are more targetted and my cost per conversion is lower than what Broad/Phrase is.

Each to their own of course, but that's the way I do it.

    hi,

yes pause on adgroup whilst testing the other as only the keyword with a higher CTR will appear & the other same keyword wont if theyre both active.
