Exact Match Domains

    Hello,

    I purchased several domains including localcriminaldefense.co, duiattorneyaction.com, entirepersonalinjury.com, theduidwiattorneys.com, and entirefilingbankruptcy.com 1-2 years ago.

I am ready to develop a couple of these sites, but now with the new EMD update, I am wondering if it would be worth it to work on these domains or should I just give them up and start fresh with something new?

    Thanks!

Well it is worth to use these domains only if you are building brands and companies behind them. Few pages of content purchased from non-english writers will not do anything good. Google killed low quality EMD websites that were spamming forums, blogs, bookmark sites and others but decent business websites are still there. These domains would give you some advantage but much less than it was some time ago.

I am going to develop a quality site... what is the point otherwise? My thoughts are you if you try to appease Google, they are just going to change the game on you in 6 months, so it's best to just build for your users with high quality content.

While it is true Google's EMD was aimed at spammy websites, like all of their algo updates, MANY high quality websites were hit by the EMD, Panda and Penguin. Just as many were not.

    Thanks for your reply.

I hope that by quality you don't mean over optimized AdSense or Affiliate website but some database, service, research, forum or other websites that adds quality to the web.

I would still use them, google apparently only target EMd's if they are spammy ones (altho i must say they didnt do very well), so you should be alrite, i wouldn't bother buying new ones domains as a just incase. Like the others have said, as long as you have enough quality content you shouldn't get penalized, (shouldn't being the word as it is still possible).

don't worry from this EMD update. Google only penalize those which has low quality sites So start building a quality backlinks so wait for next update for your site.

This is where Google looses me with this entire EMD thing. If you have a site about local criminal defense or DUI lawyers then what's wrong with domains like localcriminaldefense.co or theduidwiattorneys.com. I mean really, what's Google's issue with choosing a domain that "exactly" describes what your site it about. If I have a site about fluffy bunnies, it make more common sense to use those words in the domain that to use something like emca.com that make absolutely no sense and doesn't help any to know what my site is about. Then again, Google has never demonstrated much common sense.

I know the standard reply is Google is only after EMD sites with poor quality content. And who determine what this means? What's Google baseline for "quality"? Google would need to have an actual person, with some common sense, visit each EMD site and make a decision whether it's quality or not. I don't care how sophisticated it is, an algorithm can't determine quality. Then it is still subjective. I could have the best site about fluffy bunnies ever made with some of the most brilliant content every written and the person that reviews it may have a bunny phobia and bam, it's gone.

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard. Who associates quality with a shitty ad site?

When was the most recent EMD update and how much does this effect new EMD's. I've been in the IM world for about 10 months now and have only discovered EMD's in the past 5 months, I've been building sites with my EMD's but am still struggling to get them ranked.

    Any advice?

    thanks

The most recent EMD update came at the end of september (aroudn the 28th if i remember correctly) but it also came with a bunch of other updates around that time to, including a big panda one, a penguin one and a top heavy one just to name a few, so guess you can't really tell what it was that hit you.
I think google have now made it harder for EMD sites as they have taken away any ranking it gave for that, so you'll have to work harder at the other parts of SEO.

    Hi Mgee,

Thank for the reply, I didn't think I'd get one so soon as I noticed the last post was back in 2010 before mine.

Cheers for the information, I'd heard about a recent big 'G' EMD update but didn't know it had taken place before in the past.

Maybe I'm a bit late on the EMD's but I'll keep working at them.

    Thanks again,

Since you have them already, why not put them to use? Google may not be giving as much credit to exact match domains anymore. But still, Google isn't going to penalize you for having an exact match domain..

EMD are still good, since you can rank for the EMD by just backlinking with your naked URL (IE : www.exactmatchkeyword.com). Because of that, you can build a good link portfolio who's whitehat and actually rnak for your term.

I hope this help you a bit. Keep divertifying your links and you'll bank.

Cheers guys, really appreciate this advice. Could any of you shed some light on what's the best way to start generating real traffic to my websites that doesn't require SEO... Or would you say forum posting would be one of the strongest forms of driving traffic to a website? If so, any other suggestions on good forums besides Digital point?

I just took a look at your EMD.

For those niche, I would recommend driving traffic from related forum or website. It could be blog comment too. You just have to be creative and to not look SPAMMY. Try to take an extra 2 min to answer nicely and to present your link in a USEFULL manner.

Another trick you could use is to use classified ads to driv instant traffic. The most know site is probably craiglist, where you can get tons of traffic.

At last, you could drive traffic from Youtube. Make some videos related to your niche and put your links in the description so people can click it.

The thing that you have to keep in mindwith those methods is to not look spammy. Again, its really important to show that you wan tto help people, and not just spam your link everywhere.

Hope this can help a bit :)

    Trafficxtreme,

Dont rely on only 1 method. Make sure you test all the method I gave you before focusing on only one. In some niches, craiglist will do an AWESOME job. In other, YT could be better. It's all about testing :)

I'll definitely give Craigslist ago, any suggestions on where best to post to, I've heard San Fransisco has the most amount of traffic hitting it daily. Any other suggestions or any other great sites for marketing to would be greatly appreciated, you've already given me lots to think about Johnny,

    Cheers
