    Hi,

When you search for keywords using adwords tool which match type option should be selected? Is it phrase match or broad match or exact match?

Also while finding the competition for keyword in Google search results should it be searched putting the keywords within quotes?

And whats your opinion on exact keyword match in domain? Will it rank first for that targetted keyword? If yes what should be the search volume and competition while selecting the keywords?

Putting the keywords in quotes will return your EXACT competition, my rule of thumb is any keyword that throws back results of less than 500,000 "competing sites" should be pretty easy to rank with on page 1..with a bit of backlinking. Above that mark and you'll be struggling...you also want to check that the keywords that get below 500,000 results back also have AT LEAST 3,000 searches each month...that's if you want to REALLY PROFIT...bit of competition never hurt anyone..go where the money is i say!

Choosing the keyword you want to rank high with as your domain really helps, but it's not guaranteed to get you number 1...

    So, briefly explained:

1 - search for keywords with quotes to give your EXACT competition
2 - if it returns back at least 3,000 searches per month AND no more than 500,000 competing sites..go for it..
3 - Build some decent backlinks and you should get in the top 5 on Google with chosen keyword (if you are doing article marketing)

Forget the lower end results if you really want to profit...

    Hope that helps???

A good domain counts a lot in search results, but sometimes if the other sites are better in content and SEO, they can also get higher rank.

Hi thank you very much for this, but I have few questions ...

How to know how many competing sites are there ? By doing a google search for that keyword ?
Do I use the quotes in both google keywordtoolexternal (for searches per month) and in google search (for competing sites) ?
What kind of keywords we are talking about ? phrases with many words ? If so, how can I create a website that is all about that keyword ? or just few 4 pages about it is enough ?

    Thanks a lot !

Anyone who tells you to check your competition with QUOTES is a fake SEO guru. Don't listen to that crap.

When you search using Google keyword tool - always do Exact match to figure out the real estimate of how many people search for that EXACT phrase.

The real way to measure the competition of the keywords is to type your keyword in Google search WITHOUT quotes. Look at the word "auction" for example. eBay is ranked #1 for that word and look at the title and description. The title, description, and the domain eBay.com have nothing that mention the word "auction". That tells you that site has a lot of high pagerank sites linking to eBay with the anchor text link "Auction".

You need to get this free tool to analyze your competition: SEO For Firefox

Just type that in Google and the first site should show you the link to download it. You can use that tool to easily analyze the competition in the first page of Google.

Look at the first 4-5 sites in Google. Are their title fully optimized for that keyword? If your primary keyword is "japanese maple tree", then make sure your title tag says "japanese maple tree".

"japanese maple tree - learn to grow maple tree" title is not the same as "japanese maple tree" because "japanese maple tree" is 100% relevant to your keyword. In another words, it matches 100% with the phrase that people are typing into the search engine.

Keywords in your domain are ONE factor to SEO but not everything. To answer your question, that is not an opinion but fact. Title, keywords in domain, high quality backlinks with proper anchor text links are HUGE factors to ranking high in the SERP.

Edit: I would also like to point out if the first few sites are pagerank 5+ with fully optimized titles, you have a VERY hard time to rank high in the search engine. It will be very time consuming.

I agree with everything you said 100% except for this statement.

Just look around in google searches and you will see that as long as those keywords are in the meta title it doesnt matter the order or the placement or if there are other keywords around it imo

This is not the case. If your website is properly optimized for your keyword got some backlinks and it matches your domain name then it will help you to get higher ranking.

It will help A LOT. Most of the time I can't beat competitors who have the keyword domain.

No, it is because the person has good anchor text links with that exact keyword phrase to make it rank higher even though their title tag is not 100% exact match.

He is correct :). If you have more Keyword Backlinks, there is a good chance of gaining Top 10 Positions quickly enough :D
