I still manage to keep some PR on most of my directories, two have a PR3's and some are PR2's and PR1 and a few with now PR at all or had been demoted to PR0. Would be pretty interesting on the coming future on how directories would play the part on the web.

I think directories still could play a good part on the web, as categorize links in order for those that are looking for information, problem is (this includes my directories) that most categories have no information in it usually, I have been working on this by adding sites I see that I like and I include it to my directories instead of "bookmarking" it on my browsers, maybe one day i'll have hundreds categories filled with good links to sites that I would visit.

I think that's the essence of a good directory and what we should all be striving towards.

I started giving away free links for the rest of the year to increase the number of sites that I have listed, but sadly most of the submission are done by submission services that don't bother to read some simple submission rules.

I have yet to see a real site owner submit his/her site to my directory. I beginning to think that I'm one of the few that really take the time submit my own sites and not paid someone else to do it for me.

That's why I stop the free link directory, and I just find good sites to add myself. Try, http://www.Stumbleupon.com for finding good sites to add.

I tried the paid submittion once or twice...Don't bother with most of those guys (not saying ALL).

Seeing and experiencing the tactics on how they do it on my free directories, like they drop it on any Categories which is obvious it was done with a submittion software.

Just to note that, this thread is not about agains't eWebpages or the owner. It is one of examples I could come up with that got me wondering on how Google evaluates certain sites, whether be a Directory, Blog etc,. As I go and check other sites and directories I see a lot of sites getting de-avaluated or had it page rank lowered or completely gone.

One example of a "Trusted" site is Yahoo directory, Web Directories and it is a PR1. But look at here, Google's own directory (Based on the DMOZ directory) is at PR0 even.

I read on SEOMOZ that over 4 sub directories/folders will struggle to gain PR an even be indexed.

Why the concern? PR has little or no impact in the serp's and the serp's are what directories are all about. Strange as it may seem a three week old directory which has been indexed by Google works as well as any but its certainly not worth $100 a year to get listed in any directory.

And that is why Google took a crack at sites they believed were selling PR, that were selling links. Why do you think everyone is suddenly charging to "review" your site? PR was a good idea that got all bent out of shape by people who have a difficulty understanding that its dishonest to sell something that does not exist. I may be wrong but was there not one such scum ball who was mincing around with a PR9 tattooed on his hairless chest. Whatever its irrelevant now, its history and the proof of the pudding is still out there for all to see.

Directories are merely an organised list of the editors favourite bookmarks or leastways, they should be. As such they serve as one more "vote" and nothing more. Its not complicated. There is no rocket science involved. The value of a link grows with its age. So take a good look at the sections on Mortgages, Loans, Ring Tones and Acne. These should tell you if the directory is going to last. There is no point in paying to have your site reviewed if the directory owner is "reviewing" and accepting sites no one else will touch. They will get penalised and there goes all your hard work. All your money, all your time will simply go poof.......the way that it did before.

That's wrong, else it wouldn't exist. Sergey and Larry developed pagerank as a method of ranking sites - well before they founded Google.

While there are still people out there who wan't to buy PR, there will always be some one lining up to sell it to them.

Like I said, it was a nice idea but it got trashed by unscrupulous rouges. Greed tends to warp peoples perceptions of what is and what is not. Been there, done that and have got the scars to prove it ;)

Yeah I am a strong believer that Google slightly shot themselves in the foot by allowing people to see the toolbar PR. If kept a secret internal value they'd have less trouble with paid links/buying and selling of PR.

Well, it's never too late to hide this information from all of us. Why they don't do it right now?

They probably use this tool for other purposes (ex: promotion and many others) and that's why

    PR=Google

I think it allows them to collect tonnes of free data about what we browse.
