I've had several inquiries about the recent updates/changes at eWebPages, so here's a quick run down: We will no longer offer submitters the option of adding site resources (deeplinks). We will continue our past practice of editorial additions of "Interesting Pages" we feel may be of benefit to any of our present or future users such as those listed on One Laptop Per Child or Montanakids.com pages. This is an issue that I have discussed with others and is not a new idea. I feel this feature was abused by many as we have had to continually edit submissions with spammy anchors/urls, as well as argue about those editorial changes with submitters. It's not worth the effort on our part, so we feel it's best that we left this option up to other directory owners. The same goes for user submitted meta descriptions and keywords. Not worth the effort to delete/rewrite the crap submitted. We are in the process of reviewing our category structure. Any changes we make are those we feel are in the best interest of the directory. We have been in the process of reviewing our current index and have made some unpopular choices regarding some listings. Please note this is ongoing and far from complete, and it's not a personal issue nor intended to offend anyone. I don't agree with every one's business model and I'm sure many do not agree with mine. That being said, if you have any personal issues I'll be glad to address them as that, personally - either via PM, email or instant messenger. My thanks to everyone, and as always - my best wishes for your continued success online.
Nice to see changes on your directory, Creed.Good Luck with your directory In my opinion you are the real directory guru
Thanks for the heads up. I agree with what you have said and I might opt for the same on my directories soon.
Thanks Saad. First time some one mentioned this I knew that from 2006, when eWebpages started. He is the real directory owner. Best of luck CReed with the changes
So instead of letting people add their own deep links are you saying that you will now pick the deep links for them? Not a bad move, although I think that this may add more time when it comes to reviewing the sites, but if it keeps people from using spamming anchor's and url's then I am all for it. Oh, will you be making these changes to the current listings, or is this only for new submitters?
Sounds like a good move, maybe I should do this for my directories as well. I haven't faced this problem so far but best be prepared.
Thanks for your support, it's appreciated. As far as guru, far from it. I'm at best an apprentice with much to learn. As far as adding "Interesting Pages" to the listing details, it will be an editorial decision to add them if it's felt that they provide a measure of usefulness or interest. All of our existing listings (editorial additions included) will be reviewed. Some more changes will be made and some of those changes may be to the site resources. <added>I had an inquiry about the single price point and the reason why we no longer offer featured listings. I was tired of the repeated complaints regarding our editing of titles and descriptions for featured listings. For some reason, submitters think they are entitled to their preferred anchor text, description and placement by selecting this option. Just another point we felt best left to those directories providing "reviews" designed to boost search engine rankings. </added>
