My main competitors for my wrestling gear sites all witnessed drops in links and PR yet Im not moving up with the addition of 70 More BLs (the #1 has 13...) Why do you suppose this is?

Links are about quality, not quantity. I would take 1 link from www.google.com over 100,000 PR1 links any day.

I should have been more specific.. I have more quality links, 8 times more PR4 or higher links, we hail in the same directories (minus yahoo)

Im higher in yahoo than all of these sites, so it seems to me that my on page optimization is doing fine also.

Also note that current SEO theory states that the PR/Backlink update is a trailing indicator.

In other words, the updates you are seeing now have been factored into the SERPS over the last umm.. 6 weeks.

Have you compared the anchor text between the sites? Also, they may have 10,000 links that are PR4...

Honestly, I don't see any offsite factors that they are beating me in- especially keeping the site from the top 10.

    Using McDar's tool, I am #6 Allinanchor, #3 Links, #3 Pages, #2 BLs...

The #1 site has me beat only in all in anchor, and the #2 and #5 allinanchor arent even listed top 10..

How high is your keyword density for the keyword? I am noticing that the more I reduce the density, the higher my ranking is for that keyword on Google. On one keyword, I completely took it out of the page, and it's #1 on the results now.

eCommando - that's an interesting finding. Can you tell me how many links and what the anchor text is for those links going to that particular page where you reduced density?

    I doubt that's very typical though :)
