Try social bookmarking sites for more traffic. Write a blog about site and trade links.

First off I'd probably do a search here for something like "free traffic". I'm sure lots of people have posted things about this.

The big think to watch. You can get LOTS of traffic, but that doesn't really mean much, if there is no quality to it. There are many 'traffic' generators out there that will send hits to your site, but other then consume your bandwidth it might not help you much.

Here's a summary of the common things I see when people ask these questions:

#1 Be yourself, and be imaginative -> You can follow everything else below, but if you content is not interesting, is duplicated, or just plain boring, no one will read it. Write about what you know and put your own 'personality' into your work.

Write Good articles, with an "about the author" section that points people to your suite. Submit the articles to various submission services

Watch on DP Forums, for "Free Directory" postings, and submit your site to them

Have Digg/Stumble buttons on your site and other social bookmarking links to get submitted to social sites. I like extreme.com's socializer link
    http://ekstreme.com/socializer/

Have an RSS feed that people can subscribe to.

Keep up on the latest and greatest trends of internet marketing, (but only believe 1/2 of it)

You can also find sites that will exchange links with you. If you find the right sites, you will get better traffic to your site.

forums give a lot of great traffic
some well-ran businesses say 90% of their traffic comes from forum posting.

In fact some businesses are born from posting on forums.

If you don't want to pay for traffic, you'll have to rely on free traffic from the search engines - which usually means Google.

This means getting high rankings through well-thought-out keywords and good Google PR, which all takes time and hard work!

    How about Press Releases?
