Everybody here and his dog own a directory

That's what Aaron walls said in his blog.

And it is even more obvious here, seems like almost every members will have a directory (or two, or more) after they join here for awhile.

Why is this? Why spent time doing things that everybody else is doing?

 

people are jumping on the bandwagon that started 5 years ago...

just wait in 5 more years everyone will have there own myspace site

That's what I just said in this thread.

How do I know this? From reviewing submissions to my (and my dog's) directories.

 

Cause there's still money in it. Also nothing beats not having to wait for your submissions to get approved

 

In regards to directories, most people on the forum are making general web directories, not niches. That's what I have realized.

By the way, there are hundreds of thousands of every type of sites. The key is to stand out from the rest

As long as links are a major factor in search rankings then directories will have their place.

 

it depends on your goal... trying to make money? then its not a directory

even the best pay directorys out there (besides yahoo) dont make in a year what most viagra spammers can make in a week

 

This would explain alot. Viagra is probably the single biggest product that is spammed on the web.

That's partly because this is one of the best forums for directory owners. Check out the directory sections of various other big webmaster forums, and you'll find they're not as active.

But, it's also a bandwagon. And it will probably keep on rolling as long as building a directory is as easy as it is now.
