I think you made mistake, I didn't find .edu & .org directories but only websites. Links from .edu, .org and .gov extension websites are good for website because search engines (google especially) trust too much on these extensions and there are lots of visitors a day on these type of website but these type of links are hard to obtain. If you get one let me know.

    Thanks

Ya not the directories. It should be website. And yes .gov/.edu links are more powerful than .com

Actually, Matt Cutts himself said .edu and .gov links compared to .com for example have no more influence.

.edu and .gov links are more powerful(add more weight to your links)... .org is just like any other tld domain.

They are full of Sh#t if they are suggesting that the domain extension carries some magical weight to it that makes it better in google rankings. ;)

This goes to anyone who says otherwise in this thread as well

The amount of backlinks a site has is what determines it's ranking.
Guess what... most big .gov or .edu websites will have millions of links.. That is the ONLY reason why those sites would help rankings over a brand new .com.. the ONLY REASON PEOPLE....

You may have a point Brandon but I don't think they should be discounted at all. Government (.gov) and Education (.edu) websites tend to be authority websites and if your website is able to get a backlink from such sites, then it will help raise your ranking. It is not the be-all and end-all though, but it's nice if you could get links from those domains.

    This ^

It's been stated several times from Google themselves that the extension make no difference whatsoever.

Exactly. I'd go as far to say that, because a lot of people mistakenly think that .edu and .gov links are automatically better, they have been (and still are) targeted by spammers.
Sites that link out to low quality spam sites tend to lose 'trust' in the eyes of search engines... .edu and .gov sites are not exempt.

Why would someone want to pay you for something they can find themselves for free? Maybe you should try over at BST.

    Hi masterdataentryservice,

Use a .edu and .gov search engine like this and experiment with a few of the following search strings. (You should end up getting results like this)

    inurl:blog
    "Add comment"
"Notify me when new comments are added"
    -"comments closed"
    -"you must be loggedin"
    "comment"
    etc, etc
I'm sure you get the picture ;)

    Cheers
    James

Google likes to see back links that come from .gov and .edu because they trust these links.

It's very difficult for an ordinary person to get their own .gov or .edu domain name as these domains are reserved for universities and government departments. That's why Google respects them so much. Google doesn't expect to see low quality content in a university site, or a government site, and they don't expect to see spam either.

Back links from .gov and .edu sites definitely work well!

".gov and .org backlinks ususally have a good SEO impact because they give trust on the eyes of the search engines. They are quality and high authoritive sites, and a link from them is very beneficial for SEO (as long as the link is dofollow)."

.edu or .gov extension website does not carry more weight because of therir extension. They do however tend to usually have many inbound links making them authorities and a good place to get a link from.
