I have a big project flying around my head, and I'm trying to sort out my ideas... I am going to offer a small freeware program. Someone told me to take a look at upload.com to host the file. I noticed there are several options, from free to premium... and you can even bid on keywords to atract more people to your software. Has anyone ever used them? What options did you select? How did it turn out? How expensive was it for you? Any comments and suggestions will be apreciated
I thought upload.com was only for hosting software to go on Download.com :-|. I use them, but only to get into Download.com
Software on upload.com will also be listed on download.com. Another alternative is www.tucows.com. I've got a couple of freeware programs that are listed on both of those sites. Another good one is www.freewaresite.com but they don't host the file. From the basic statistics that upload.com give I still get around 100x the downloads from my site that I do from upload.com. Tucows makes you pay for stats...BOOO HISSS!
Upload has many options that seem to help to increase the amount of downloads (of course, paid options), have you tried any of them? I'm sure if your program is burried among 10 million other programs no one will find you
I have tried them. They are not worth it. Stick with the most basic $9 whatever per month. My main product has 811,801 through there. If you want to leverage with the freeware program fully, and would like me to tell you the best route to take, PM me.
Have you even used Tucows, or are you just another idiot looking to increase their post count, since all you are doing is posting crap all over the forum?
Even though download.com would be the better choice in my opinion, you'll want to get listed in as many sites as you can. Like directories, there are hundreds of download sites. If you have a keyword that you want to target such as AMR Converter, you can name your program AMR Converter Pro, and then all the links that point to your site will have your keyword in it. (that's just an example, of course. you can't actually use that because I am already ). Like I said, I can give you some more info if you want. I even know of a very good service you can use that will submit your program to all the sites, keep them maintained, and submit to new sites as they become available. Do you already have the program written, have someone to write it lined up, or need one written?
I am starting the project... have a coder writing the program, so as soon as I have more details I'll pm you so you can give me more ideas, thanks for the help.
