If you mostly work with .com and other extensions, the first .UK transfer can feel a little odd because the current process uses a registrar TAG instead of the usual auth-code flow. Nominet is changing that in February 2027 and will use Transfer Authorisation Codes. If you have transferred a .co.uk before, was the TAG process clear to you the first time?
I've never transferred a .co.uk myself. All of my hands-on transfers have been .com and newer TLDs where the auth code flow is standard, so the TAG system has always looked a little odd to me from the outside. The move to Transfer Authorisation Codes in February 2027 feels like overdue standardisation. A code that goes directly from the losing registrar to the owner is a lot less error-prone than hoping both sides typed the right TAG. My one question would be what happens to transfers already in flight during the switchover. Those registry changes usually have a few edge cases in the first month or two, so I'd want to time any transfer away from the cutover week. Has anyone seen Nominet publish a detailed migration guide yet?
