Yep, everyone i practically talk to does not know what I am doing and some of them are like, if i pay you will you make me a website so I can make money? I am like haha, your funny buddy, its not that easy. The only thing that gets them going is when I tell them I make adult content sites, then everyone in college comes up to me...so matt, I heard you make adult sites? and i am like yea, who told you....they go: People. Haha Its funny how its the 21st century and people still dont know how to do anything more advance, instead they know how to check their email, read news, and go on myspace.

The funniest thing that happened to me regarding that was my dad was around one day, and I was writing up some complicated script in dreamweaver.

So someone else walks up behind him and asks him what I'm doing, so he goes "Well, he's been chatting on that program all day already.. "

i so understand what you're going through! my dad thought the same when he saw the lines of codes in DW. he said to me, gently but threateningly, "son, you're spending too much time chatting. don't you want to study for tomorrow's exam?"

Yeah, I've talked to people who don't understand online business, and its great. Less competition to deal with.......

Same here. My family is completely in the dark about the net, and it is really sad, and quite frankly, pathetic.

I work in a call centre of one ISP, you wouldn't believe how stupid calls do I get. Online business? I don't eve try to explain that to anyone out of IT sector :)

One example, since my ISP is using LDAP for user authentication and usernames end with "@domainname.TLD". One user said that he entered his user name correctly and I forced him to spell what hi wrote, this is what I get: "somethingmonkey.TLD". Yes, the monkey sign was written with letters :)

Oh yeah! I shudder when people ask me what I do for a living. I just go "I am in Advertising and Marketing". That pretty much takes care of it.

That is a good way, but don't they ever ask the name of the company you work for and its physical address ?

It is indeed quite true and my experiences are similar to Devin's.Few people think that you can tinker with se results.

For many people the computer is simply
    a.) Chatting
    b.) email
    c.) the big P
    d.) Google
e.) Wikipedia occasionally ( because it crops up on google's front page for many terms.

Sometimes. I just tell them I run my own business. Then when they ask me about it I say it's classified information and against company policy to make public comments about company operations :D

One of the things that really annoy me about working from home/with a computer is that people assume you can just drop everything and pickup their kids or drop off something for them at a moments notice. Even worse is when they get the "anyone could do that" attitude when you try to explain what you do.
