I thought that it was time to share with you the concept of Scratch My Back Marketing since it came up in another thread here.

Scratch My Back Marketing is a link building method that incorporates branding and advertising into the link building process.

It can be applied to any site that allows user generated content such as a blog, forum, or social media site.

When leaving comments it is recommended that you leave a 150 character comment that is related to the topic. When using blog posts or videos it requires that they provide useful information and not be self promoting.

The idea here is to exchange useful content or comments in exchange for useful backlinks. It's all about win/win marketing.

I have been using this method for 18 months and It has proven to be extremely effective in acquiring higher search rankings, as the comments and content are not getting deleted. It also has produced substantial new business.

    What say you?

Do you mean you left 150+ chars comments on other websites for last 18 month and the result is good?

Just leaves comment could help your ranking but not an all-in-all solution. You do still needs other link to sustain and stabilize your ranking no matter what, especially when you have to compete in high competitive keywords

That recommendation is for any website that allows for user generated comments. While 150 characters may seem long it is just a little longer than the Tweet maximum. For most people it will be about twenty words or two sentences.

I actually did a one year case study on this method before I started sharing it on forums. The results were incredible because these links seldom ever were removed. In this process there is very little wasted effort involved.

The results were so incredible I started reporting them on my blog after six months. It's not about "What can you do for me link building." It is all about win/win marketing where everyone benefits.

Blog commenting is obviously good if done the right way.

Unfortunately, people don't seem to understand simple logic. 99% of the comments I receive on my blog are spam. Not even worth a look. It goes straight to the trash can.

Well, but this method is not followed. I don't like the idea because natural comments by user worth more. We can try this method for sometime and when we get ranked then let go of this method.

I use Akismet for general spam. I use Tan Tan Noodles for auto bot spam protection. I also created my own plugin that requires a 150 character requirement before a comment goes into moderation. The blog clearly indicates that it is a moderated no spam zone and that I use Keyword Luv. The comment policy is clearly available. Yet, 95% of my comments are still spam!

This is one reason why Scratch My Back Marketing works so well. Most everyone else does such a poor job of commenting those that truly add value stand out in a crowd.

This method has directly produced substantial new business as well and overwhelmingly positive search results.

I am not sure what you are referring to here. What is not natural about reading a thread or blog post and leaving a useful comment that is related to the topic? This is a manual program there is nothing automated.

You mean to say I'll scratch your back by leaving useful comments on your blog right and in return link will be placed?

That's actually only a very small part of the picture from my perspective. In fact, I no longer use blog commenting for links. I prefer to add posts, photos, and videos when link building.

I came across this ” Scratch My Back Marketing” few months back which relates it to Parable saying “It’s better to give than to receive” and I guess It actually applies to digital world nowadays. SEO is something that really needs hardwork, dedication and patience.

I am glad to hear this and yes there are spiritual benefits from using this method. It really is all about everyone involved in the process working towards the higher good. I am a big fan of win/win marketing.

Not only is it a really great concept... And it works! As in creating new business opportunities while link building.

I see, "scratch my back marketing" is a way to promote your business by posting to blogs, forums and social nets. So this thread uses "scratch my back marketing" in order to promote a business that is based on "scratch my back marketing". Ugh... my brain just went numb. :)

I'll have to introduce this method at my next meeting. I'll use a ComTec audience response system to find out if my audience has ever heard of it. They can use one of these keypads [IMG] to rate the effectiveness of the idea. :)

The bottom line is we need we backlinks and we get these mostly from sites that allow user generated content. These websites need, want, and desire content. It's what I call win/win marketing. The link builder gives the website owner a scratch with useful relevant content or comments. The website scratches back by providing use Do Follow backlinks.

The side benefit for the link builder is this, and this is where branding and advertising come into play, it allows you to stand out in a crowd that is always taking the easy way out.
