About two weeks ago I bought a domain and started building a site. I only did a microscopic amount of keyword research, but it's something I wanted to build because there just weren't enough quality sites available when I searched for my keywords. I had about 5 fairly sparse pages of content and added another 20 today (not "articles", just content). When I checked Google I was not only indexed already but somehow had position #9 out of 20,400,000 results, and that's with ABSOLUTELY NO LINKS WHATSOEVER, just basic site SEO, and nothing special at that -- I am not an SEO expert at all. I guess that means what I'm working on is worth continuing. After all, Google wants me to succeed... Has anyone else managed to get good rankings like that in a reasonably crowded keyword area without trying?
Well. For one particular keyword (which according to overture gets over 1000 searches per month), I somehow went from barely in the top 1000, to top 10, to #1 with what I thought what very minimum effort. The keywords only appeared once on my main site and I didn't do much article marketing with that phrase. It was a nice surprise.
Well, so far only about 10-20 (having been "up" for what, 1 day? Can't exactly gauge traffic). It's a fairly well-searched topic, so it has good potential for growth as I add content.
most of my keywords were out off the rank previously its visible visible in all SE, what had happened? i always do links and other stuff whats wrong with that?
to date: 1 I don't even know if it was a targeted visitor or not. Haha. A few lessons can be learned here. I'm sure most people know by now to take Overture's keyword selector with a grain of salt. However, while I was ranked #1 for this keyword (right now I'm at #5), 99% of my organic traffic comes from keywords I never technically optimized for. Rather, they are variations of keywords similar to my main ones, and they have no data on Overture's keyword selector.
It's hard to tell what it'll be long-term since I just got stumble-upon-ed, but so far I'm doing 120 unique visitors a day. Until yesterday I had absolutely zero links. It'll be interesting to see what happens if I do some actual link building. The only real potential in the site is ad revenue right now, but that's still not bad. I see a way to make it subscription-based, but it'll be a helluva lot of work, perhaps more than it's worth.
Well that's good for you. You do well SEO in your site. Even you have no links you still put it on #9. Maybe google gives you more points on your on-page optimization.
Thanks for the mention, m1t0s1s. If you're using blogging software, Xangis, then you do have links to your site. You're even doing a search engine "submit" without knowing it. It's amazing how the state of SEO has changed with blogging software. 1. Everything is technically well optimized just by choosing the right publishing platform. 2. Every page has at least 2 perfectly keyworded anchor-text links leading to it. If TypePad, then the prev/next arrows. If blogger, then the Previous 10 posts link. This internal link structure is just as good as external links on "long tail keywords". 3. Every time you post, it pings services such as WebLogs, blo.gs or Technorati. This is the modern-day equivalent of a search engine submit--although nobody thinks of it that way. Everything old is new again.
I had it on my blog.. http://technofire.blogspot.com No optimization, still 70% traffic from Google !!!
OK buddy, what's your position for that keyword now ? It is said that new domain will be given a chance in the first month.Have you suffered any slipping since then ?
