That could be solved with a Supercomputer: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4428190.stm Or even a Computer Grid http://www.physorg.com/news1061.html Unlikely to happen but Im sure they have the cash to throw at these.
i think you just shouldn't be that worried. Google isn't intersted in you as a person, but as one of millions. those millions of people together are a reliable information source. if you want to be worried, go to google-watch.org. And if you want to stop being worried anymore, go to google-watch-watch.org now wait till google-watch-watch-watch.org is born.. too bad it doesn't exit yet
Google is far more interested in trends, rather than which sites individuals visit. I think the whole "Google is stockpiling data about you" conspiracy theory is taken too far. Sure, Google could track the pages you search for, sites you visit etc. but why would they care about what John Doe does. They want to know what the internet community as a whole does. That way they can offer better services, better ads and more or less increase the value of their search results. Theoratical example: For instance lets say they track sites visited. Site A for "car loans" get 1 million visits a month, people stay between 5-10 min on the site. Site B gets 1.1 million visits a month. People only wait for the page to load and go in search of a better option. Now Google can take data and reasonably determine that site A is the most appropriate results for "car loans", and put that site higher in their rankings. At the very least it might decrease the abundance of spam sites.
Guys, you give Google too much ideas... i am not afraid of Google because I don't do anything wrong. I think that google will not do naything with this data because it will affect A LOT of sites and they still want to give relevace results. I thought about it a lot lately. I think people are a big concenre about google because they grow really fast...
I don't think they're really monitoring the pages people visit right now, but it's possible. If they wanted to, they could tell a lot about a webmaster's SEO activities by the searches he does. Say I log into Adsense, check my sites' stats. I then do a Google search for "cheap text links", browse some of the sites. Then I do a site:www<dot>mydomains.com, to see what's getting indexed, what's not. Then I log onto text-link-ads.com, and purchase some links. What if I log into link-vault directly from my adsense account? They can track that with Google Analytics, right? Hypothetically, they could know all the sites I run adsense on and where I'm going to browse or buy links. If their goal is to not reward sites that are actively buying links, it would be pretty darn easy to track, I think.
They're already taking steps toward identifying and filtering purchased links. Stop buying links and you'll have nothing to worry about.
I'm aware of that, just saying that there is a potential reason for them to track this info. I don't think Google is already, or will start using this type of technique to figure out who is buying links, but it is possible. With Google Toolbar, their search information, Google Analytics, desktop, etc, they have a lot of info about you to work with.
I totally agree to me it seem's a little strange that they come out with a major update such as jagger and around the same time release all of the programs that you can "voluntary sign up for" however that do track many aspects of your site. Of course it is all private information only you can see it oh and of course Google.. Just something to think about.
