Event Targeting System

Okay so the function of Grab Events is to hold event listings it is current setup for Vancouver events but could be easily expanded or switched.

I've also made a list of changes I was planning that will make the site far more powerful and allow multiple cities to run off one install along with a bunch of other good stuff.

Overview

If you look here http://www.grabevents.com/index.php/page/register/ then click next you will see how a user creates a profile of interest levels, each event is also given applicable interests and relative importance then each event is matched to each user all event are then ranked in terms of the likelihood that a given user will enjoy the event.

Events are added through an admin panel for the site admin or a special event adder user designation.

Then each week a newsletter or RSS is sent to each user based on the top events that match them in each of a few categories such as: this week, just announced, tickets on sale, recurring events this week.

So each user gets a different newsletter that meets their needs.

The best part is at the top of these newsletters advertisers are sold ad spots (which they can pick through their own advertising admin panel) that they can target to users based on the same criteria as an event so all users see super targeted ads (the advertiser can choose the level of deviance under which their ad will still be shown).

The site admin gives the advertiser credits (which they would purchase however you choose) after that the advertiser can book ads however they like and chooses how many user it goes to. Any users who do not have the ads for their newsletter sold for the top and bottom ad will receive a default ad set by the site admin.

The way an ad works is much like an event you target it, and then you match it and see what users it will apply to at what degrees of relevance.


On the site when you're not logged in it is regular html links (SEO reasons), but for a logged in users it is very AJAXy and make browsing the site a breeze. Also on the site a logged in viewer can mash up the events in may way viewing by relevance over whatever date span they choose and then even break it down further by category. A great example of the site AJAX is how you can get event details by just rolling your mouse over it.

So that's it for now the site is really powerful and well built, I was not able to promote it right, thought I never really gave it the solid push it deserved. The best part is if you get the registered users those newsletter/rss ads are worth huge amounts of money since it can be targeted so well. I would of course say change the focus to your city or just make it worldwide. I would also open up the adding of events so anybody can ad and target them.

The opening bid at $1000, far below what has been spent on the site FYI.

Software license: the code was developed exclusive for me and that right will transfer to you. (as many developers do) They re-use parts such as logins so you will not own the full copyright to the code in terms of selling copies of the script. You can however do whatever you want with the code, install it multiple times, and install it on another site then sell that other site. You will have exclusive rights to this piece of software.
