Event domains: quick SEO opportunity or trademark risk?

Major sports events bring huge search spikes.

A reported example: Worldcup-Soccer.com was bought for around $13 and later sold for $1,500.

But risky wording can go wrong fast. fifa.plus was listed for $3,999, and fifa2022.com was reportedly offered for EUR 150,000, yet both ended up in WIPO cases.

For SEO sites, would you build on generic football / travel / city domains, or is the risk too high?

Hi! A domain name is only a small part of SEO. A keyword in the domain can sometimes help with relevance or click-through rate, but real SEO growth comes from strong content, solid site structure, backlinks, and long-term authority. Without that, even a great domain name will not deliver meaningful results on its own.

Thanks for the reply, good point.

A keyword domain can help get attention, but it won't save thin content. That's probably why generic event-related names feel safer than anything too close to protected terms.
