    Hi,

I'm looking for an event calendar / web calendar script that will allow me to run an online even publication system.

It must be able to allow for registration of users, include the ability to sort by geographic region (towns, cities etc), and preferably PHP/MYSQL based.

    Any one with any suggestions?

There are many free and commercial calendars written in PHP and other technologies that are widely available. Additionally, many companies offer hosted calendars. I'm not aware of anyone that has an integrated event registration system though.

I would recommend that you look over at HotScripts.com:

    PHP:

    Remotely Hosted:

Our company is a calendar vendor as well. With the exception of event registration, our product would meet your needs better than most.

Here's a link to our product page:

We have a white paper available on our web site that discusses how to choose a web calendar.

Thanks for the information. I had considered your company's software and while it has the majority of the features that I required, there were some things that caused me to not want to use it.

The search feature was very cumbersome, and the results that were returned weren't easily found ... It wasn't until I accidentally scrolled down on a the page, I saw that they were returned below the search form that I had completed. This after 5 or 6 times trying the search feature.

I did not like the small single window that popped up when I clicked on an event details. To me, it took away from some of the features that you had built into the software.

Cost was also an issue. How I seen my site running, I would need 5 - 8 calendars, unless I could find a way to integrate geographical location into what your software offers.

I'm still evaluating several software apps, and will hopefully have one shortly. If not, I'll hire a programmer to write one for me.

There is a per-user option that can be set to display the search results in calendar form. You can turn this option on in Edit | Preferences. For people who are not logged in, Click on the Setup Public Calendar viewing and set the option.

    What would you prefer?

A lot of customers use resources to emulate regions. You create the regions as resources, and then assign the resources to the event when you create them. The calendar has the ability to view calendars by resources. An example of a customer doing this is NY DCJS. They use this to give by county view:

    http://nydcjs.mhsoftware.com/ViewCal.html?resource_id=0

One nice thing about this is you can have multi-level regions. For example, You can have NY State, and also a North Eastern United States region, and assign both to events.

Writing a bad calendar is much more expensive than you would think possible :)

    gsexton,

I appreciate the responses provided and the calendar that you showed is similar to what I am looking for.

Is there a way to permanently set the view to show as you've indicated in the sample URL provided?

I'm not sure I understand. You want to lock it in to the by Resource View that's used for DCJS?

If so, the custom header would have to be edited by hand to include the ?resource_id= portion on each link.
