even 299$ payment no guarantee site will be added to the Yahoo! Directory???

I've read in the Yahoo! Directory Submit Service Agreement:
" I understand that there is no guarantee my site will be added to the Yahoo! Directory. ".
What does it mean? Even 299$ payment no guarantees site will be added to the Yahoo! Directory???
Does anybody know any precedents of such thing: site owner paid 299$ but yahoo didn't accept his site?

Yes, that's what it means, and I have heard of this happening. Frankly at $300/year I find it outrageous.

If a person is paying US $ 300 it doesn’t mean a site has quality, I guess this is the same policy that applies to almost every directory which offers paid listings.

I got accepted to Yahoo dir, 2 weeks ago. This is the only advertising I'll ever pay for - so I figured it would be best on a PR 10 site like that. I've been getting sparse traffic on a daily basis, which was the same that I was getting with AdWords, so I dropped AdWords.

The $299 simply pays for the review of your site, I guess that before you take such a step, consider submitting to other directories , cheaper ones,

If they accept your site, you might be feeling more confident about submitting to yahoo,

If the cheaper directories are rejecting your site, well ,,, perhaps you've got more work to do

In any case, its unlikely that Yahoo would reject a worthy site, do have a look at the sites in the category you want to submit to,

Does your site fit in ?

Also be a good idea to give your site uniques titles & Description

Large companies can get away with doing just about anything they want. And I doubt it would make much difference in your traffic anyway..

I think its a big wate. You coan get links from better places with that money. $300 to be listed in a directory, and one without a guarantee, reeks of yesteryear pricing when a diretory listing was considered important and valued by search engines like Google and Yahoo. However, as we all know, directory listings have been devalued quite substrantially, so i feel you could definately getter more worth for your money from other highly relevant links, of which you can get quite a few for that amount.

Matt Cutts has said the three important directories are botw.org, DMOZ and yahoo. The reason google places a lot of importance on Yahoo is that they don't accept everyone. Most other paid directories are willing to accept a high percentage of listings for the fee - which is why google probably discounts most of them.

Yahoo will likely accept your site as long as it isn't a MFA site or a bunch of free articles. $299 is a small fee to pay if you are serious about your site, but it all depends on your marketing budget. If you only have $300 to spend, there are probably better places to spend your money.

Generally, a Yahoo directory listing isn't going to bring you much direct traffic, but it should help with SERPS in Yahoo and Google - however, it isn't going to take a #500 site into the top ten.

It depends on what your site is about and how it's earning. For me it was actually a matter of saving money by going on dir.yahoo. I was spending $100/mo on Adwords, but by spending $300 for dir.yahoo, I'm getting the same traffic and saving some $900. My site has no real conversion factor and it's currently running off Adsense, until I find a better substitute, plus start adding CJ links.

Every site I have recently launched I have listed in the yahoo directory and I have never been sandboxed. Previous sites that I didn't list in the directory I had to wait a long time before I could rank for high traffic keywords. If you build a quality site you will get in the directory. Whether it is worth it or not depends upon your own site, whether it is useful to anyone, and what sort of income it brings in. In my opinion it is always worth it

Is no worthy unless you have lot of money to take risk. You try it as a gamble. But yes its not going to bring you gold. But if you have good cash then you can certainly try it out ;)

But make sure your site is optimized and submit to the right category.

I've been looking into this myself, there is a lot of talk on better serps from yahoo and other directories, but the directories that im interested in only have PR3 will this make much difference?

Well if you are looking for difference then yes there is a lot of difference between a PR3 directory and a PR7 directory. A link from single PR7 directory may be same as 100 links from PR3 directories. But again there are other factors involved such as number of links on a page, PR of the link page, how deep your link is etc.

Personally, I would recommend getting links from similar relevant sites that are established. this way you may get targetted traffic and also boost serch rankings.

While the link will pass PR, you don't pay for a directory listing to get the PR - it's an authority link from a trusted site. If you are more worried about PR vs. SERPS, there are better ways to increase just your PR. (PR does not equal better SERPS).
