Hey Deano, In my humble opinion, I believe if the website name is EU themed then the .eu doamin will give a lot more weight to it's overall impact. -PYJAMA
When the general registration begins there will be lots of people register domains (many only because of the possibility of reselling them), but I think people will still see .COM as the TLD of preference for pan-European websites.
Problem with .EU is you have to reside or your company does in an EU location. From what I read selling your domain will be quite the process. What I see is about 90% (I'm guessing) of potential world wide buyers not eligible and a complex process for selling. To answer your question, NO, I don't thinks so.
I think it's going to be a great solution to geographically identifying the site's intent. .com's are almost always US centred. We don't have anything right now that suits the job here. .co.uk is obviously UK focussed so hopefully .eu will bring some clarity.
The geographical restriction is a very good thing - it should cut back on speculators. Seems like one third of good URLs are sitting around, parked, waiting for a high offer.
Well it is a product offered through a reseller site of mine, but if I'm honest I personally I have no intention of registering any or recommending them to anyone that really doesn't need them. I have no connections with the registry, nor anything to lose or gain from their success or failure (unless of course people register them through Starsol Domains ).
