Etiquette?

First, may I say that I hope that this is posted in the correct Forum, if not the please could a moderator move this thread to the correct place.

I have received an infraction, (I am not complainign about this, if someone thinks that my actions are not in the spirit of the forum, then I stand corrected) this states that I have been running up post count/post has no merit.

The reason for this is that I have been adding my site to a large number of the new directories that are posted on DP. When I have added my site I have posted a note to tell the owner that I have done so as I thought that this was the proper Etiquette. I have afterall seen others posting simiular posts.

Could someone please tell me if this is the correct format or is the infraction because I posted the same wording for each post?

PLEASE be assured that I do not want to appear the be a TROLL, I am merely trying to establish the correct Etiquette for thanking someone for allowing me a free link within their directory.

Your comments would be gratefully received.

There are several threads on this in this very section of the forum. As the infraction states, posting "Submitted..THX" multiple times is against the rules. As the infraction states it adds no value.

If you are concerned that other people are doing it, us e the reported post feature (The ! with a triangle around it). Most likely your posts were previously reported hence the infraction.

Cheers for that, I'm not concerened about others doing it, however as I had seen this done, I thought that the correct etiquette was to thank the person who's directory I had added my site to publically.

Obviously, this isn't the way it should be done.

Do you think I should PM them or is it the done thing just to add your site and not say anything?

No need to say anything. Just submit and record the submission in whatever system you use to manage that.

Then, if you need to make a suggestion or have a comment about the directory, post it.

Unfortunately, many people use "submitted, thanks!" as a way to build their backlinks (via their signature) or run up their post count.

Thank you for clearing that up, I now know why this is seen as 'bad form', and as such I will post no more on the matter.

    Cheers

Instead of just saying thanks, I submitted my site.

Give one or two good sentences about the directory and how you found it, liked it enough to submit to it.
Give kudos to the directory owner.

Yes, too many people just throw in a simple one or two words about submitting into those threads.
Bit ridiculous in my way of thinking.

PM the directory owner and let them know in pm that you submitted a site.

Basically, not only in those threads, but in all threads of the forum, always use a few sentences about the post.

Thank you! That is exactly why we have the infraction system. :)
