Etiquette around using images from other people's sites and linking back

    I am creating a knitting blog and I want to feature some patterns that people have for sale on a site called Ravelry, with full attribution and links back to their sale page, of course.

    What's the proper etiquette for doing this? Should you contact the person first and check to see if they'd be OK with you using their image with a link back? Is an email sufficient for this? Should I save the email as proof if there is ever a dispute?

    Thank you, I am new at this and I just want to make sure I do it properly!
