Ethics of directories

I have several directories, all with 1000+ free submissions. Today there was a pr update and I now have a pr5 and 2 pr3s.

On all these directories I would like to upgrade to phpld and start having them be paid directories.

So here is my dilemma: Can I delete the free submissions?

If the answer is no I will have to pay hundreds of dollars in the process of changing software and have thousands of dollars in links given out for free!

    Please help me out!

Why would you delete the free listings?

And you have gotten thousands of pages with content for free.

Don't be in a hurry to monetize your directory, imho directories in order to be succesful need patience, a PR5 is not enough to call a directory succesful.

You can delete the listings - it's your directory. ;)

But - if someone deleted your listing, would you now pay for inclusion? I'd say doing so would probably hurt your directories more than help. There are so many new sites created every day that you'll still receive a number of submissions.

    Thanks for the advice!

I think what I'll do is just pay someone to convert the database to phpld 3.05 and spread out all the categories with a high amount of submissions.
