OK guys... I was wondering what some of you do in order to gain "Ethical Backlinks" to your sites. Hypothetically speaking, If you had a client who had a well known site in a highly competitive arena (VERY competitive), but could still make some fairly major improvements in terms of rankings, what would you do to help (Ethically). As clarification, The Co-Op, for the sake of this client is not an option. Just backlinks here - how do you get your links? Article Submission; Written email requesting link exchanges; RSS syndication etc etc... I wanna know what you guys do for your "Clean SEO" sites in terms of link building. (Damn ethics)...
I would buy a cheap site and use the weight to point at the new site so the site doesn't run the coop. That aside if it's not an option then press release, probably some form of online advertising campaign online, competitions, directory submissions it would depend on the genre/site.
I think if its a well established company with resources then the two best option are Article Submission and Press Releases. These two allow them to define their image and gain additional natural links. I am new to PRWeb (linked to above) but have been very impressed so far. If they are an established company, they will be used to the Press Release game. RSS syndication is a good one although it depends on the company. They may be able to achieve the benefits of it through either of the two options above. Hope that helps
Directory submissions, PRs, link purchases, e-mail webmasters who already do links in the genre, paid for inclusion. Try and make something truly noteworthy, a tool of sorts, and try and go the Cool Site Of The Day route, it also gets many forum links etc.
If the company is an authority in some regard, offer free resources of the highest possible quality (without handing out IP for free). Quality PDFs, docs and pages will get lots of backlinks from relevant pages. Can also bring in conversion by means of priming them with teasers.
Thank you very much guys..... What if the site were in one of those "grey" ares of the net, such as adult, gambling etc... What would you do then? Do you think it would make article submission and the cool site stuff more tricky?
If it's already 'grey' then throw up controversy. It gets attantion and attention gets links. A link like "Check out this website, it's crap!" carries link pop too.
It definately makes it more tricky as the success rate of submision is much lower. I don't know if any of the major ones even accept truly adult material. If done right, you can still use Article Submission and Tools for Gambling.
one fo the textlink brokers has deal where you get permanent links page links for like $10 a peice. For a few thousand dollars you could generate a pretty good base that way.
If you do "cool site of the day", does it make you feel bad if your site is rated like a 4 or a 5? Or do you not care what the rating becomes?
It makes no difference from an SEO standpoint although higher ranked sites in the Archive can possibly get more traffic. Even if you got a 1 you would get long term benefits.
The higher the rating, the more likely a ripple effect will occur with a multitude of natural IBLs. So in that regard you should care. But as a bare number, I wouldn't worry about a low-ish mark. There's hundreds of thousands in their community and your site is never going to please all of them. Just be ruthless and go for the benefits.
My favorite way to get backlinks is to create software. It delivers potentially hundreds of backlinks, in one shot. This is if you use a PAD file and get registered with one of the shareware rings.
Great thoughts guys... How about the outsourced link exchange services like link-monkeys? I wouldn't mind using that kind of service as long as I knew the links weren't 100% shit. Any of you guys had any experience of this kind of thing?
Yesterday, via an ad on SP, I ended up on this site: http://www.elinking.com/default.asp You can buy 1000 links for a decent price. They own a network of sites (I guess Britecorp style) and they even get traffic so probably not spammy at all. Check them out.
