I would definitely go with PHPLD. Awesome script and an awesome community that is very helpful. :)

Both are great and I use both. What it comes down to use try them both out and see what one YOU like. Personally I prefer esyndicat now because the backend is much easier for me to approve sites and monitor where they are, but that's me.

I use phpLD, and I have seriously modded it as well. phpLD is AMAZING! second to none. And i *do* have a directory to show. www.activeweblinks.com

and you know, I have several more mods that I have worked on, including a live visitor stats online, and a google bot tracker, and a top categories mod, and a top 20 last visited mod that deep links and a lot lot more....

    here are the MODs http://www.activeweblinks.com/phpld304/
They are just dorment for now, because I am busy with other clients.

I definitely vote for PHP LD. It is best from both the submitter and site owner viewpoints, in my opinion.

phpLD has few extra features that I like but I still chose eSyndicat - easier to work with and better support.
If you have any installation problems - they will install it for you for free and will make sure it's working properly.
Also if you have any existing directory running on different script - they will convert it eSyndicat free of charge...

I'm using phpLD on about 6 or 7 sites. I have never used another. PhpLD was easy for me to learn and I was able to mod the heck out of it before I learned much PHP. eSyndicate may be an easier script according to some, but I can tell you that phpLD is pretty easy too. Might be the difference between counting to 3 vs. counting to two. :D

I appreciate everyone's support here. We are working on the next version of phpLD right now, and it should be released in the next 30 days. For those familiar with the history of phpLD, we have continued to release new versions, getting better and better as we go. :)

The only reason I will not show my directories is because they are all niche, and the LAST thing a web marketer should do is to deliver a blueprint to competitors ;)

I have to admit that I only glanced at phplinks , the reason I didn't go with it was that so many were using it, and I wanted something different. I know of some top people who are happy to recommend phpl, I just went with something else.

Maybe I will take a look at it again.

I also use phpmydirectory, but that is another animal entirely.

    My vote is for phpLD.

I think that one of the main reasons to consider it, is that it is constantly improving.

When you consider all of the people in the phpLD community that are constantly working on making new mods and new ideas for the script, it definitely adds something that not many other scripts can provide. It almost seems that someone posts a new idea or mod on a daily basis. All you have to do is go to the forum and grab it, then add it to your own site.

Be happy to give you a demo, or help you convert your database.

Oh, and I don't like to tell people about my niche directories either.
I have a lot more of those (than general). ;)

Most people here are going to vote for phpld. I also like it b ut really wehn your exposed to directorys in DP the first thing you here is phpld. But I do like it.

Evene though phpld isnt in 1st page of "directory script" and phpmyadmin & Esyndicat are. I see david is spending money on adwords though :)

If you put the free version of PHPLD and esyndicat then phpld is definitely first. BUT the PRO version of eSyndicat is used less, so your directory doesn't seem so common, and that's a factor of increasal. eSyndicat Pro has lot more feauters and looks more professional though it is lot more expensive.
