if you go to google.com/keywords you can actually type in how much cpc you want to do and it'll tell you an estimate of what position you will be in. However, if you get google slapped that's another story because it will increase your cpc to over a couple dollars.

Actually you probably do not want to be first.

Reason is people will click by instinct and not because they want to buy....

2nd to 4th place does better in conversions from my experience.

I love the FU I have a lifetime membership with them thats how good they are.......

the best part about SpyFu is that you can steal competitors campaigns

What if competitors launch retarded campaigns just to throw off stupid "spy" programs that are completely inaccurate in the first place?

    my experience is different.
    i advertise myself (web developement)

    i used to be 2-5.
i decided to try to be 1st, and i started to get more contacts, more serious, and about gigger projects.
    that's my experience

    thanks

"the best part about SpyFu is that you can steal competitors campaigns"

How does SpyFu gain access to people's Google Accounts in order for them to see what competitor's campaigns are?

That's a good question, however spying on the competition is certainly not stupid, Governments have done it for years as well as Corporate Businesses and if its done to that extent then it goes to reason there is a very good reason why.

I imagine competitors could build campaigns to fool people but there are three issues that come into why they don't.

    1. There real campaign is still available.

    2. Nobody really has money to waste....there may be rich advertisers but they typically do not waste money.

    3. There are not that many competitors with the intelligence to devise something like that.....

    :)

I would think data mining mixed with a Google API....Probably the same methods Affiliate Elite uses to pull apart Clickbank & CJ publishers affiliate offers.

Anything that can do this for UK based accounts and keywords?

spyfu is a good ballpark and so is google/keyword

Use them in conjunction to get ballpark figured but don't take the numbers they give you have holy grail. If spyfu and google estimator say 1.25 is the high bid, then start with 1.5, monitor the results and adjust as needed.

Seems like nobody is talking about Google Cost or Traffic Estimator, which is part of your Adwords account.

You can just put in the keywords and your Max CPC, Google will estimate the CPC and Ad Positioning info, so it's pretty useful, you can know how much you want to put your Max CPC.

But that's only an estimate from Google, i never take that as accurate, the only way to know is to test it.

Yes, and another quick trick is if you use Google Traffic Estimator and leave max CPC fields blank Google will show you estimated bid to be in positions 1 - 3 automatically.
