Established proxy with $350+ revenue per month

This is an 8 months old cgi based proxy. The site constists of a perl script which gives the abillity to users – mostly kids from school – to browse sites that their network restricts access. The certain proxy can be used to visit myspace, which is the most popular site among proxy users.

Besides this I have made some custom scripts, to have better statistics, reduce the server load, restrict access to leachers, and increase the SEO ranking of my proxy. Bellow I will try to describe those scripts.

Sources of traffic

I have done almost nothing to promote this site, and I really mean that. It appears that this proxy gets its traffic mostly by typeins and bookmarks. There are also about 12.000 visits from search engines each month, so there is some safety. I also discovered that there are some schools in the us that use my proxy a lot (more than 500.000 requests each month from schools)
With some advertising – I can help you on that as I have found some good ways to adverise my other proxies – you can really boost this site. I believe with the right ads it can earn about $500-$600 per month.

Custom scripts

As I writed before, there are some custom scripts that I've created for this site, which will be givven to the auction winner as well. Those scripts are :

1)Image replacement script

This is a script which works with php and mod_rewrite, and it replaces the cgi proxy script when displaying images. The use for this script is to recude the overhead on the server (it is much faster for images than the perl script) and restrict access to leachers (there are many of them around, and they can easilly crash your server without this)

2)Custom pageviews stats

As you may know awstats is not counting the pageviews of a proxy script correct. Actually it “sees” most of the requests as pageviews. To track the stats better I made this simple php/mysql script which will count human pageviews and display for each month a graph, and some extra info (lower day,higher day,average, etc.)

3)Comment remover

This is a very simple script that created to remove all the comments from the perl script. I thought that this way it can reduce overhead – of course it reduces it very little, but I am crazy with optimizations - as the initial script has thousands lines of comments.

4)Dmoz by proxy

This is a SEO related script that made to help the site get more indexed pages in search engines. It used to have 1.000.000 indexed pages in google, but now has about 130.000


All those scripts will be givven to the winner of the auction, and in case you need it I will install them to your server for free. The site is XHTML strict valid, and has pagerank 4.

I would like to mention that I guarentee zero downtime to the site when we will move it on your server, as I will alter my dns sever to your host, and keep hosting the site to my server untill the propagation ends.

Finally I want to tell you that I am not going to give this site for less than $2.500

Revenue Details:

The site is monetized through 3 advertising networks : adsense (only in the front page, as it is not allowed in the proxied pages), kontera and adversal. The total ammount earned for this month – untill the 27th) is $340 so I guess the site can make about $350-$400. As the traffic is in an increase phase I think that the earnings will be bigger next month.
Traffic Details:

Untill 27 of this month the site had 64.901 unique visitors with 110.000 visits. Have in mind that there are many schools that produce more than 50.000 visits to the site with their static ips, so those number are propably bigger.
According to my own software there have been made 350.000 human pageviews to the proxied pages this month.

What sort of bandwidth does it use each month?

 

Awstats sais 370mb for this month, but I am not sure how accurate is this. In any way you wont have troubles hosting it on a shared account.

 

Hey buddy, if i am not wrong, you are claiming of around 65000 uniques a month and you have hosted your site on a shared hosting and the bandwidth consumption is just 370 MB / Month ?

I also have a couple of proxy sites and one of my site has around 600 - 800 uniques / day which is somewhat half of your stats but still it consumes a whooping 10 - 12 GB/ day data transfer. does all your visitors just come, see your website and goes away without surfing ?

How do you earn 350 USD / month? from adsense alone?

pls put some light on these issues before asking for 4K USD cause i smell something fishy about this site looking at the stats and data transfer.

 

CGI proxy rarely reports stats correctly.

@vandematrum : Please don't trash my thread. If you are interested to buy, I can give you the log files of awstats to see for yourself. Propably the site is using much more bandwidth and for some reason it is not recorded by awstats.

If you check the thread at SP you can also see some screenshots. I use 3 companies to monetize the site : adsense, adversal, kontera.

Also I use a custom script (as mentioned before) to track pageviews to the proxied pages, This script tells me that this month I had 350.000 pageviews.
