Well, I've heard great things about DW. I love FP, but it would be interesting to check out dreamweaver and see the difference.
Be careful with "optimize code" though, Fryman... it's imperfect and can actually cause problems rather than fix them. The myth about "code bloat" in FrontPage may have been accurate several versions ago but it hasn't been for the last few versions and certainly not with FP2003.
Well, I am using the latest version of Office, I think it is 2003. What kind of problems, Minstrel? I like the optimize feature because it always takes off several bytes in size from my pages, all the useless whitespace is deleted
So snappy you are Minstrel. Maybe you can take a look for yourself. But, let's take the first (of two) H1 tags I found (after there were a bunch of empty paragraphs and &npbsp;'s as well as a bunch of extra lines in between everything): <h1><!--mstheme--><font color="#0000FF"><font size="4" color="#0000FF"><b>Are you looking to build an online store?</b></font><!--mstheme--></font></h1> Code (markup): Typical FP stuff that I remember from FP98. But, my point was to help Fryman see that he probably knows enough about HTML already to do as nddb said and use an ssh session an a text editor like vi. You can't get faster updates than you can when you edit on your web server.
According to one of the Microsoft MVPs, the code optimization feature can apparently mess up some of the FP web components and such. I can't locate the post about this - from the FP newsgroup. Was that not already identified as a site built with FP98, chachi? Or are you talking about something different?
Bad advice, especially to someone inexperienced in editing web pages. far better to edit offline, preview the changes, and THEN upload to the server. Also, FrontPage is a lot more than a WYSIWYG editor - I often work in codeview but the site management features are a real timesaver.
It wasn't before I posted that response. I was looking at the code when I hit the reply button...before you guys posted. I am a little slow this evening. And, I don't really like to look at code that much, especially when it is not mine. I am still waiting for you to tell us your real name is Bill Gates Minstrel.
I would never suggest anyone work on a live page in real time, especially if they are new to something. That is 101 stuff.
LOL. Is it that hard to figure out? I hit reply, then I went in another Firefox tab, to look at Debunked's site, then I viewed source, figured out how to quote HTML in a post, posted it and by the time I hit Post, you guys had posted your other comments. Heh, I'm out.
so do i, ....but i DON'T even have fp extensions installed, it was more hassle than it's worth, which is why i asked whether you are using any features that ACTUALLY NEED fp extensions, because if you are not.... get rid of them.
Frontpage is faster and takes less time. The problem is finding hosting companies that know what they are doing. Most do not and don't care. The best frontpage hosting company was WEB2010 but was bought by Hostcentric.com then BIZLAND.com, Hostcentric did support Frontpage, but BIZLAND does not and they sucked trying to. Also i notice all the hours the html web developers charge for, while they type each line. Really a rip off. I can throw out a whole basic web site with in an hour.
Personally i look at html code and scripts daily and know how to type out html pages and etc, but choose to use my time wisely and use Frontpage. That was the purpose of Frontpage and i have been using it since the First FrontPage 97.
