Feedback Error While Sending A Post With Links

I get this error "Server did not respond in time when fetching example.com' (offline or too slow?).". Some websites just have a shitty hosting but they work, should I use a URL shortener instead?

PS: I cannot even use example.com as a link :(
http://example.com is a redirect to http://www.iana.org/domains/example/ (use the destination URL instead).

Yep... it's intentional. It's unfortunately that it redirects, but URLs that redirect aren't allowed any longer, so...

Well, isn't it possible to increase the response time limit a little bit? Inactive links are stupid...

An increased response time isn't going to make the URL not redirect though... :)

I know, but that way I might be able to post links to sites that XenForo currently recognizes as "offline or too slow".

Yeah, but it's also a fine line because whatever lag the site has makes THIS site look like it has lag when trying to post. LIke if we waited 60 seconds for a server to respond, it means the post wouldn't post (or kick back an error in this case) until 60 seconds passed after you hit the "Post Reply" button.

I know that I just want too much, but what about adding this extended limit to the non-js version of the post form? Nobody blocks JavaScript these days (except for me), so it would work only for people who do block it in their browser or for those who want to insert "dead" links (and there might be even a <noscript> notice saying that it may take longer to send the post when not using JS).

I also don't suggest to increase the limit to one minute, that is crazy, but just a few more seconds would help.

No promises it will stay this way, but I upped the timeout from 5 to 10 seconds. If it causes problems or people start complaining that it takes too long for the error to show, I'll probably revert it.

Thanks! I just tested it and I can add the link now.

By the way, I noticed that there is no link timeout check when editing the post. (I am not sure about redirects etc. though, I don't want to create 10 "deleted" posts in a single thread).

    Edit... fixed now.

    Cool.

One more thing (I don't want to spam it here with new threads), I can see the link "Set Best Answer" under my post (although I am not allowed to use it). I think that it should be hidden (with the font-size menu in the editor and other stuff that we aren't allowed to use).

I was trying to post links earlier and getting a message about it redirecting, however it does not. For example:

    http://www.webpronews.com/matt-cutts-weighs-in-on-guest-blogging-for-links-2012-10

It posts if I don't set a title (i.e. type a title, select it and then set a link using the link button).

I am trying to post another thread with an image and a few links, but they keep getting timeouts. I assume the timeout is per link and not a value for all links? I haven't tried posting with just raw URLs (in that particular post), instead of URLs with titles. The URLs are definitely live (at least from my location) and loading very quickly. Example:

    http://www.seomoz.org/

    with a title

Which, funnily enough, posts with and without a title in this thread. However, if I go back to the other thread it won't post and times out.

Is there a link limit? (In the post I am trying to make, there are six links and one image, spread across four domains.)

EDIT: It finally posted after quite a long time of trying. I don't know if it was coincidence, but from the first link I removed the '' surrounding the URL (just the first one) from the bbcode and it posted immediately (after failing a few seconds before).

There is no limit... But if the server the link/image is on is terribly slow, you will get timeout issue when it tries to validate.

I checked them all from my end and they were loading quickly (I bypassed the browser cache, too).

The stranger issue, though, is why the WebProNews links were seen as redirects when they aren't.

    Such as this one:

Matt Cutts Weighs In On Guest Blogging For Links

I can only post it by switching to bbcode mode and removing the two ' surrounding the link in the url tag.

Redirecting to www.webpronews.com but instead do it with a title, so the bbcode would be {url='link'}title{/url} (obviously with the [] instead).

The '' in the url parameter is causing the problems (as if I remove it, then it will post).
