Error While Installing Plugin Thorugh Magento Connect Manager

    I am using Magento 1.4.2

    While using my Magento Connect Manager I try to install an extension/plugin , the console is showing me an error

    ERROR: failed to mkdir /home/prabarta/public_html/app/etc/modules

    How can I overcome this problem

    Expert advise required.

    that pertains to a permission related issue most likely but 1.4.2 is crazy old. You should really think about upgrading.
