Error suddenly appearing in Sitemap

I have started to create sitemaps using google's sitemap creator for my subdirectories some weeks ago. All went well, but suddenly some of them are showing an ERROR sign. No changes had been made and I followed the same procedure with all the sitemaps.
I resubmitted but still get error. Not all pages are showing error yet.
What could the problem be and how can I fix it?

    Can you give more details?

Where is your XML sitemap? What urls are giving error? What are they?

Without more information, it will be difficult to help. Perhaps you can benefit from my article about solving website crawling problems, but it is hard to say without knowing the nature of the error messages Google gives.

My sitemaps where generated using google sitemap generator and uploaded to my the appropriate folder as I have a folder for each subject. My main directory which is my signature is giving an error, and so does http://www.articles-online.info/accounting/
    and http://www.articles-online.info/auctions/
and a few more, but some are fine for example
http://www.articles-online.info/articles/ is fine, thought I have done exactly the same thing with all the subjects. I have got rid of dead links and uploaded sitemaps for about 25 subjects so far. They were all OK for about 2 weeks, but now suddenly some of them are giving error and I have not been getting any hits for 2 days either. I usually get about 4-5 a day.The error says "URL timeout: DNS lookup timeout ". I would appreciate your advice

I think you just gave the answer yourself:

"URL timeout: DNS lookup timeout "

Your website seems very slow for me (Denmark) and DNS lookup timeout could indicate (simplified) that Google's request to the nameserver that binds your domain-name to an IP address timed out.

So I think it is a webhost related problem.

Why was it working before and how can I fix it?
If it can't be fixed is there any use in having a sitemap?

It is a temporary error i think. If every thing is fine then you check it after 1 week and you can find it gone....
