How many url's are you adding?? I have never actually used it as you can get pages indexed way faster with other means.

I agree, still I've spoken to webmasters who submits their url each time they make changes to their site. There's no reason (afaik) no to submit.

I'm pretty sure that Google's Add URL form is nothing more than something to keep newbie webmasters from emailing/calling them to see how to get into Google. I ran a test where I put up an orphaned page (no links to it) and used Google's add URL form for it once a week for 16 weeks. That page was never once visited by a spider.

Yeah, but Google knows about you already, DP... I'm sure that gave it a way as a trick and they were bound and determined they weren'y gonna fall for it again.

Yes. I did noticed that page was not found. It seem odd but I guess it's only a temp thing. Will look at it again in 24 hours.

I did a similar test with a site I put up a couple months ago. I submitted it with the /addurl/ before it was ready. It got a title and descriptionless entry in the index(I could see it with site: search and an exact search of the url), but the bot didn't visit the page... Within 1 week of adding links to it from other sites, it started to get spidered and indexed by googlebot...

I'm not sure this is possible. I don't believe Google manually adds entries into the database which means if your site/page was there it was because one of the googlebots visited the site.

Saying that, I've had sites get spidered with no links pointing to them, and without using the addurl function at google.

    Toolbar.......... *Cough*

You can place a link to your new site on a website which is already in google index. Placing link on a page with a good PR will help your new site index even faster. I personally don't use http://www.google.com/addurl.html for submitting my new sites as it takes ages to get indexed that way.

Interesting, I had no idea that the add url page was not really used by google. Every now and then I add a site through that page just out of habit. I guess I have just been wasting my time. Thanks for the tip.
