Err, What is a Coded Template?

I am looking to buy a couple of website templates. Please forgive my ignorance, but could you help me with a very basic query. I keep running into the term "coded template" or "uncoded template." What does that mean? I can see that coded ones are more expensive. What should I be looking for?
    Thanks

Uncoded would be just the PSD of the design.

Coded is the psd PLUS the design sliced up and optimized for the web, ie; the html, css, etc. You just have to take out the filler content and put your own in, so that's why it's more expensive, the hard part is done for you.

But a lot of them use Adobe ImageReady's crap code, so find out first what you're getting. ;)

As already stated a coded template is one that has been coded for direct use on the web, whereas a non coded template is just a PSD.

I would make sure that the coded template use the latest in web standards
