EPC. Useful Or Not?

So, we were discussing the best metrics to add to the network as a means of measuring campaign performance.

The most common one is obviously EPC (Earnings Per Click). The question is, do you bother looking at a programs EPC, and if so, how much 'weighting' do yu give to it?

I realise it isn't the perfect barometer by any means, but just getting a feel...

I'm not a member of your program, but I personally prefer to see what the network EPC is if possible before dropping loot on it. Thats one feature I like about CJ..the rest of CJ is well not as ideal as I would like, but the network EPC.

    EPC is not everything.
Sure, it indicates something - but it's just another parameter (that I do want to look at), out of several, that you should examine before testing a program.

Let me give you an example.
I promote several affiliate programs through my site.
I joined a certain program through CJ.

That program had a very low EPC. Something around 3$.
However, it matched beautifully to some of my site's content pages.

My personal EPC with the program is between $27.45 to $84.55 (it has several landing pages for several niches).
Right now, it's my #1 money maker with CJ.

So here's my advice to other affiliates:
Don't be blinded by low EPC (or by high EPC for that matter).

    Each site has unique characteristics.
One program can convert big time for you and not convert at all for other 100 sites/webmasters.
It all depends on your site's content, target audience, etc.

People tend to overrate EPC and make it their prime factor for deciding which program to promote.
This is a totally wrong approach, in my opinion.

However, even after what I've just said - I'd still want to know what the EPC of a program is.

EPC, if it's accurate like I would think it would be quite accurate if it is done by the networks like CJ, ShareAsale, etc. then it will help the affiliate marketer a great deal when considering with affiliate programs to work with and promote.

Thank you all for your input.

We are assessing this now and testing the EPC option.
