    Greetings,

I am just a photo enthusiast and I'm plannig to buy an entry level DSLR. After some research on reviews/forums etc I have narrowed down to Canon EOS 1000D and Nikon 3000.

You may have same model or may not however which one you will vote for?

    Thanks.

Depends on money you want to spend and brand love.
If I had to choose, Canon is the one to go with. :)

Both mentioned models are having almost similar price tag. I do not have a brand love. I have used Nikon point to shoot one though.
    Thanks for sharing your thought.

I have a digital Canon camera but a higher model than the one you mention. As a entry into photography both cameras are great but if I had to choose I would go for the Canon!

Canon eos 1000d is the crappiest dslr I've ever seen from Canon, a waste of money. For entry level dslr, I suggest you to buy nikon d5000+18-55mm vr lens kit. Retail price is around $600-650 for a kit.

Agree with ExaMike. Go with Nikon D3100. It have a better sensor, more pixels and new image processor compared to D3000.

D5000 have some features that are not available on D3100 like auto bracketing and swivel LCD screen. But I've read somewhere that this model have been discontinued. Probably Nikon will replace it with a new model this year.

    Btw, i own Nikon D3100. :)

I would recommend the Sony Alpha A series for a entry level DSLR but given the options Nikon 3000

Thanks to everyone for taking interest on this post and posted your valuable inputs, I really appreciate. What I see is now a lot of members has reccomanded Nikon. However, I have purchased CANON, the very next day I posted here. I feel I should have waited few more days till I started receiving more replies to the post. I also had spoken to few locals where I live. Anyways, as I have already purchased and there will be no roll back (it's not United States).

I really appreciate if one can point me to some useful websites where I can learn techniques or give me some valuable tips. Please remember I'm a rookie and I have had used point to shoot earlier.

Here is one shot using my new CANON EOS 1000D. What's your thought? Thanks...
