I'm in the process of transferring an entire domain name to a new one. I'm doing a full 301 redirect from root up. Both sites have the same exact pages so the transfer should go smooth. Today is the 4th day since I had the 301 on the site and since Yahoo is the only engine that has properly moved all the rankings over to the new domain name. MSN and Google on the other hand have both cached the new pages of the domain but have not transferred over my rankings. Any ideas on how long it would take or if they will ever transfer over the rankings?
Hey Shawn, Yeah it's a completely new domain. For a little while I would say for about a day I noticed Google rank one of my pages really well. The same exact rank transferred over to the new site. But then it dropped out and have not seen it like that since. Well I can't actually say that I haven't seen it like that since because I've seen some of my other pages linger around the same spot the old domain name was on. Also does anyone know how long it takes for Google and other SE's to totally remove the old domain out of it's cache? The reason I'm asking is simply because I have to shut down the old domain name due to some legal issues ehheeh don't you hate it when you grab a domain name and part of it's name is trademarked.
