    Hi all,
I've done lots of reading and research regarding using Google adwords and have finally had a go. I opened an account last night - one adgroup with around 70 keywords. As soon as I opened the account, every single keyword was "inactive for search". Why? I was told to make bids on no more than $.05 to keep costs low while I'm testing. Every "suggested" minimum bid by google is higher than $.05.

I just don't get it. My whole campaign shows zero for everything!! Clicks, impressions, etc, etc.

    Can someone help me?:(

Did you have any stop words in there? Like company names?

That could be part of your problem. Created more targeted ad groups.

If you're bidding on competitive terms odds are you won't get activated for $.0.05. If all else fails try upping your bid and seeing what the actual CPC turns out to be - it's not always equal to your maximum bid.

    Welcome to Google Adwords.

Google is going to rise the bids, even if they keywords has not other biders. Atleast that is my experaince. I tested keywords that noone else uses on Google Adwords and the price went from 0.05 to 0.40 in 1 week. So then I tried keywords like "gskjhgfgs" and same thing! Inactive till I raised.

Rob thanks for the advice, but I'm looking to understand what is going on first before I go and make changes.

CTR plays a huge role in keeping your max bid prices down.

Rob I have read all that, but I need help from people who are actually doing this. Googles main objective is to make money for themselves is not necessarily me...so I'm hesitant to just go and meet their price without hearing valuable advice from people like you guys.

    Hi,
Have you read "Winning Results with Google Adwords"? This book was a source of many great ideas for me.
