Enhanced Campaigns Are Trouble...But BUY Google Shares on it I have tried the new enhanced campaigns. Hats off to google for coming up with new ideas for us advertisers to find our customers (I am a significant “small-business†advertiser). However, Google also seems to have taken to trying to Enhance their own faltering revenue line in a way that I object to and that will cost us advertisers s money outside of any business interest to increase our ad placements. The default for mobile devices is the same bid as the internet bid that an advertiser is paying whereas, based solely on my experience, bids on mobile devices run about 30-50% of the typical bid on the internet. There is no choice with the Enhanced campaigns. You MUST start advertising on mobile devices...there is no “Opt-Outâ€. Furthermore, when converted, automatically, all advertisers will be advertising on google with bids at the same price as they are paying now for the internet or perhaps 2 times what they would otherwise pay. There is no more “button†to turn off and on devices; the only way out is you must go to each campaign and enter “reduce bids by 100%â€. Why does this bother me? Cant I just reduce my bids?! Yes, but the rest of the world may not catch onto this and thus for all of us advertisers our competitors are placing bids whether they want to of not, increasing their bids on mobile/Ipad devices by default since the internet default bid may likely be higher than the present market bids for mobile devices and our competitors may not even know it – and even worse may not even want to be bidding higher prices on this. (Example of another built-in Google Revenue “Enhancerâ€: How many small business advertisers are aware that google is constantly adding keywords to your keyword list but unless you go to Keywords, click Keyword Details, and then click ALL you wont see that you're paying for a lot of extra keywords that you never selected. A lot of my friends (that I turned onto google!) were surprised at this after I showed them how much extra they were paying for something they didnt want – and they were kinda pissed too.) Anyway, I am in the process of manually going through each and every campaign that I have to reduce bids on mobile devices by 50% to 70% (and in many cases 100% since some of my ads and landing pages really dont work for mobile devices that well) although it means that, all things being equal, I fret that I am loosing position on advertising ranking because Google has changed the system to “Enhance†their revenue . I really hope that Google hasnt put this structure in place merely to capture revenue from their more unsophisticated advertisers, but I am sceptical having worked in the financial industry where I worked with companies to increase revenues – and where I might have done something like this (smile). So buy Google now as revenues will definitely be “Enhanced†at Google, but sell it off when people start to catch on to this slightly under-handed way of increasing revenues and turn off this “Enhancerâ€.
there is a way to change bids for mobile devices. It's a percentage of you normal bid. I have mine set to -80%
