English is not my first language, so I have to write content/articles very slowly and proofread/modify several times before publishing in order to not sound stupid. It's really agonizing, hate it.... Just wanna know how many of you have a native language other than English. Thanks for voting!
Your poll is confusing, probably due to the fact that english isn't your native language... Less confusing would be if you just asked: is English your native language? yes / no... The negative in the question confuses the issue. For me, English is my second language.
i guess the poll justifies that the author is a non native english language speaker. but like any languages it can be learned and mastered.
Thanks for the reply. But I don't think so. Whether I ask something "Is it ... ?" or "Is it not ... ?" makes no difference. To answer such a question, "Yes" to be a positive answer, meaning "IT IS" and "No" to be a negative answer meaning "IT IS NOT", no matter about the way I ask that question. Quite the opposite to many other languages, I know. Maybe you are right(as a native English speaker), but this is the way that my junior middle school teacher told me to be right and that I have held true for 10 years. No one but you point out this is incorrect. So it's REALLY hard to believe that you are right from my standing. Please, any native English speakers clarify this?
Good for you Joe! And obviously you have made a fortune on your good skills of English. But for me, it is still a little hard to wield and needs some more time to sharpen my skills and communicate well.
english is my 2nd language, during study i always been laugh due to my poor english. But, that doesn't mean you will be left behind other.I'll keep improved my english so next time my boss will acknowledge my communication skill in english
English isn't my native language either, but since I was born and lived in Canada for almost my entire life, I have no problems with it.
Cartoon Network, right? That was my english teacher. I think the cartoons are dubbed in romanian now, though. That's stupid...
I'm Russian, originally, and so is my first language. Ofcourse, I've lived in Canada for almost 10 years now, so I'm as Canadian as my igloo or my beaver-fur boots, but I still get the occasional, "You're Russian?! AK47, Vodka, Other Russian Stereotype."
English isn't my mother tongue either, but i can read and write better in English. Correction: I can write only in English
hehe.....ya english is not my mother tongue even....n me 2 on the same track its not tat I can only write in english..but I can write in english more comfortably....
Well, I'm not a native English speaker - so I may be wrong. But it's the sort of thing that non-native speakers shouldn't mess with, IMO. I mean - if both mean the same thing, as you suggest, then why use the one that is more confusing?
I found your poll question very confusing. No English speaker would say that. I didn't vote because of it. I am a native English speaker. But learning another language is very difficult. I speak basic german, but it is v. tough. Notting
lol what an useful thread here Voted "no" PS: oops didnt see this "Is English not your native language?"
Estonian is my primary language but I dont have ANY trouble speaking english, i can spell well enought ppl can understand me and most cases I spell all the words right, just that there might be words that i dont know like slang words n stuff.
