England V Algeria: that is the worst i've ever seen Rooney play. World class player, he was utterly useless.

I will go so far as to say, he had been paid off; he was that bad !!

Doesn't seem to play that well in international games.

I agree. Awful. The worst I've seen England play for a few years.
It now makes our performance against USA look pretty good.
Rooney was terrible but everyone was bad - no confidence, no ball control, no movement, no running, no desire. They looked like they wanted to be on holidays rather than at the world cup.

Yes it's England's worst performance in World Cup and I think team selection is probably a big reason for this! Good thing is this group still alive to round 3 matches as no team confirmed their place in Knock out matches!

Makes me wonder, I actually thought they would go on through the last 4. They aren't playing as one unit definitely and that shouldn't cost them dear in the upcoming matches :-/

Yes! England need someone who can spark and from team half of players played their best football but still in team! England did excellent in Qualifying round and now boring football! Only Rooney can save them but Rooney is not 100% fit!

England just needs to get it together and beat Slovenia, which they can do. England is no different than half the super star teams in the cup right now, they are all starting quite poor.

Be happy your not a France fan, that's just sad what's going on with them.

There was no will to play, no will to win.

    My thoughts:

Capello doesn't know what he is doing. Heskey up front understandably for his best-in-the-world header, OK... So play the ball down the wings for the cross? Nope, apparently not. He instead plays two attacking wingers, Lennon and Gerrard with an attacking centre midfielder (Lampard) and a defensive centre midfielder (Barry,) what on Earth is he trying to achieve? Heskey does not belong in this strategy, this strategy cannot happen with the playing styles of the England wingers.

I say, put Gerrard behind Rooney (rather than Rooney behind Heskey,) play Joe Cole on the left wing and Lennon on the right, with Lampard and Barry in the centre, THEN we can play the intended strategy of attacking directly rather than down the bloody wings! We have Gerrard ready to fall back on the ball when it rolls out from a rebound from the keeper or the post, and failing that, we have Lampard, Cole and Lennon waiting for the ball to roll out too.

*Humph* I should be the England manager. xD
