I do not believe it has any effect to Google but I do believe it a it secondary effects which in turn effects the rankings.

If you have fi a .tv domain chanses are high it's a spammy thing and people do not want to link to you which will result in lesser links to you which means less authority and so it has a harder time getting ranked. .info which is getting cheap ($0.99 a year) has the same problem. What also happens is when it is ranked high in search engines you risk the fact that people will judge you on your url altho you have good rankings
First they see the title next the description and last the url...and if they see a url which in their mind will be something they associate with spam they will not click your listing...

I must admit I have some mixed feelings about it as I own over 450 domainnames of which are in greater part .info

Your extension has nothing to do with your relationship with any search engine. (With the exception of ccTLD's)
Your perception, and marketing value is another story.
I truly do not believe that the average user associates certain extensions with negative perceptions, but I have never seen any studies or stats either way.

When I see a study that says people view certain extensions in certain ways, I will put some thought into it, but for now, content is King, and SEO is Queen.

There are more crappy, MFA, and spammy .coms than all the other extensions put together.
IF you have a quality site, people will link to it regardless of the extension.

The average user is not that savvy. They take everything literally.
They have no idea that .TV is the ccTLD for the country of Tuvalu. They really think it was made for Television stations.

Only we know that stuff. They don't know, and don't care.
