End of ODP - Humans are deal in "Human edited directory"

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by The Pro, Apr 30, 2010.

I think end of ODP has come finally. The so called "human edited directory" is no more active. The categories aren't updated. It seems the humans in the human edited directory are dead. Now it'll remain "Never edited Directory".

    LOL!

I'm sure someone will come and tell you editors are as active as ever, haha.

I must admit when I woke up this morning and pushed my arms in front of me I noticed no obstruction. I therefore concluded that I was in bed and not in a coffin because there was no lid. So as told to you in the post aboive, we are alive and so is DMOZ. Just because you can't get a domain listed really is no big deal, just wait like everyone else, unless you want to spend your spare time doing listings.

You may find this hard to believe, but categories actually can be updated, by you in fact. Well, to a degree anyway. I've seen it happen before. If a cat. has serious problems, all you have to do is let 'em know over in the appropriate place in RZ. At different times, I've seen entire cat's reworked almost completely in little time if it can be shown there are legitimate technical problems like dead links, redirects, duplicate listings, mirror sites, affiliate sites or just really poor descriptions - if you just tell them about it. If, however, your intent is mainly to get your site(s) listed, that is another matter.

Where are you getting yoru information from. DMOZ added 9000 sites in Jan and 6000 in Feb. What other directory is growing that fast?

But, is it DMOZ's "dream" or the "dream" of webmasters expectations. DMOZ is DMOZ......it nothing to do with DMOZ if Google et al used or did not use it and if webmasters do or do not get a ranking boost from a listing. DMOZ has never promoted itself as that.

You are confusing Apples and Oranges

99% of Joe Public have no idea what is DMOZ or care to know what that DMOZ fuzz is all about.

    Real Webmaster will never ask:
how, when and why because they are smarter than wasting their time on chasing 1 backlink,
which leave us with 1% of wannabies SEOs who are still trying to sneak into Anonymously dream.

I would suggest you learn what is the difference between these 2 groups and then we’ll talk ;)

If this were true, you have to wonder why some can't just leave a dead dog lie.

Considering the amount of webmmasters that want inclusion, considering the huge volume of sites that are suggested, considering the immense amount of editing being done.........I fail to see how it can be considered Dead.

Because it dosent meet someones expectations to have their site "listed" does not mean it is dead (LOL)

I have applied 10 times to be the editor of a small category but they never accepted me. They always rejected me :p.

Trust me, there is not even a single editor for the category I have applied.

Is Google Directory the copy of DMOZ? Both seem similar to me.

LOL man, it just a nature of things.... you have to kick dead horse or dog to make sure it’s really dead.
But because some people just can’t accept the fact that dog is dead, they are trying to resuscitate poor dog
hoping to bring it back to life.

My theory of dead dog revival :D

Thank your lucky star that you have been "denied the privilege" to waste your time on page upon page of dead links and antiquated websites, that no one ever uses, and that doesn't give any benefits in the SERPs to the websites listed.

Yes, Google Dir = DMOZ Dir, but older and with more dead links. Neither get any visitors at all. Well. DMOZ gets traffic from its own editors. That's it.

Its not dead, the site is still quit active. Till you get an error stating the site is not found, it's very much alive.

I would like to point out however that just because there has been sites added does not mean a human is doing them. They do have bot listed sites ya know... so that could be the reason for additional sites.

What does you waking up have to do with anything. It's not like you are an editor or anything even remotely related to the ODP other then a posting member here on a DMOZ forum.
