Email "Whitelisting"

Does anyone have any advice on getting email newsletter recipients to "whitelist" emails? If so, I'd appreciate any guidance. Should detailed instructions be provided for each email program? Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.? or is it enough just to ask them to "add to your address book".

I'd just tell them they'll need to whitelist your address when they originally sign up. A few things I've signed up for have done that. I can't think of another way to really reach them. If you want, you could create a page with instructions on the bigger mail programs, and provide the links when you tell them to do it. Not a bad idea.
