    Was wonernig if there is a need for people to answer support emails for websites. I'm currrently doing it for a website and wanted ot know if anyone does it in a freelance or independent contrator fashion.

    there are freelance offers where people are hiring email support for specific topics, such as hosting customer service, hosting support, etc... and some are offering nonpaid in exchange for some sort of service/position

    Yes there is, in fact many people working for email support, you can find it in Services section.
