Would it be possible to automatically extract information from emails and update information on a webserver?

The problem I have is that my online merchant fastpay has told me that they won't send information back once an order is complete but they will either email or SMS when someone makes a purchase. So I want to extract the order ID from the email so I can update the database automatically.
