    Does email marketing still work?
My site has been live for about a week, weve have had alot of orders as soon as the site was live, and being top of google for certain keywords has helped, so we stopped the advertising until we hired more workers to cope with the load. Now we have more than enough workers to sit and run things again comfortable id like to advertise again. I only advertsied in forums etc but i need something bigger. Thats why im here asking about email advertsing. Does it still work and wheres best to go to set something up?
Is it good for your site or do people just class it as spam?
    Thanks all in advance.

Really depends how you do it.

Generally, it doesn't work if you're spamming 'Need XXX? We offer the best prices...' to 100,000 random untargeted email addresses. It also depends on what you're offering. If it's a service which people can use over and over again, then consider emailing your current consumers newsletters and competitions on a monthly basis.

If you have an easily targeted market, then find an email marketing company who probably have lists for that kind of thing. They should also know how to bypass the spam filters.

You also need to consider the legal side of things. Different countries have different laws, then there's international law relating to it... which is why Marketing Companies would be a wise choice as they should be farming these addresses from 'opt in' sources :)

Kind be too specific as don't know what you're offering though.

Wow, i didnt realise there are legal issie concerned with email advertising.
I do only want targeted emails otherwise i think its not worth the hard work i put in creating attractive emails.

The service i want to market is paid forum posting (see signature). Like i said its only been live a week and ive had loads of orders already, got top of google for some keywords and got a guy from a very large forum, whos had 2 free services from us, reviewing us, so i know this will all be good advertsing, but i want to do more :)
I dont want inb0x to just sit there while i get customers, now i have alot more writers i want to target the market correctly, but i wanted to check if email would be the best way for this.
Also if you know the name of the companies that can help get my advertsing email viewed that would also help. Im ok SEO wise , i know what do you with that, its the other forms of marketing, like email campanies that stump me :)
Thanks for the help btw also.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

    You're targeting forum webmasters, therefore:

    http://www.phpbb.com/
    http://www.invisionboard.com/
    http://www.vbulletin.com/

You just need to post in the relevant section of the community/forums of these forum providers. Be sure to properly search to find the relevant section though, don't want it to be a blatent ad. Other ways you could do it is by setting your own staff to post at these forums, and include your service link in the signature of their posts. Also, getting your staff to search the forums for keywords relating to traffic/visitors, there's bound to be plenty of people moaning they don't get enough ;) so PM them aswell as posting a reply advertising in the thread, advertising your service.

Forget about email advertising, this will be cheaper, more effective and it's sticking to your territory.
